There’s an old saying that says: “What goes around comes around.” There’s an even older saying that you should do unto others as you would have them do unto you. There’s a newer saying that suggests that you should “pay it forward.”

While the first usually is used to warn someone if they do something bad it will come back to haunt them, it also can be used to mean If you do something good it will come back around to you. The second, Biblical saying is more in tune with treating people well, just like you want them to treat you well. The final saying is usually when you do something nice for someone and instead of taking any type of payment, you ask them to do something nice for someone else in the future.

What does all this mean for you in business? Get involved!

There are many ways you can give back to the equine industry. You can work with Wounded Warriors, Riding for Hope, 4H, Pony Club, a local equine rescue, A Home for Every Horse, PATH Intl. … the list goes on.

When you are involved in the equine industry on multiple levels, then your network is ever-increasing. You never know how that person volunteering next to you might play a key role in moving your business forward.

The take-home message from this is that when you do something nice for someone else, usually it benefits you in the short- and long-term.
