WDAA Judges Seminar to be held in Denver, CO, Feb 8-9, 2017

The Western Dressage Association of America (WDAA) is hosting a USEF Western Dressage Judges Seminar February 8th and 9th 2017 in Denver, CO. The seminar will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn, 7675 E Union Ave. This seminar is an integral section of the Judges Education Program offered by the WDAA, and is the required first step in the process to obtain a USEF Western Dressage judging license. WDAA membership is a requirement to register.

During the judges seminar, participants will learn about a judge’s perception of gaits, impulsion, rider position and seat in western tack, correct and effective use of aids, and harmony between riders and horses of different breeds and styles. The seminar focuses on the evaluation of horse and rider combinations, scoring tests, and providing correctly worded comments. The program is two full days and will include a USEF rules exam. Judge candidates must complete the judges seminar in order to move on to the next two steps in the Judges Education Program. The second step is apprentice judging with USEF Western Dressage Licensed judges, and the third step is online judging where candidates will review, score, and comment on videoed Western Dressage rides, receiving a USEF-licensed judge feedback when finished. USEF licensing guidelines are available at the following link:

Seminar attendance is required every three years to maintain a Western Dressage license. Please consider attending more often as our video library grows each year providing valuable continuing education. We appreciate our returning judges bringing feedback from “out in the field” as a great resource for invigorating discussion.

New this year: Expanded education on Western Dressage rail classes and all new reformatted equitation division and scoring methodologies. These classes are growing at an extraordinary rate. Come enjoy great video presentations of super entries from the World Championships.
