It’s easy to come together around a special event, so Happy Grandparents Day! (And for those of you keeping score, today is also International Literacy Day, National Date Nut Bread Day, Pardon Day, and National Pet Memorial Day). So why should you, as an equine business owner or manager, care? Because this is a great reminder that you can create excitement around something that…well…you create, whether it be in your area, business, discipline or service. Companies have created days to celebrate veterinarians, farriers, bosses secretaries…the list is seemingly endless and entertaining.
So why not use the holidays that have been created–or create a special event yourself–to boost your business?

So to bring this back to you and your business, what specific event can you plan that will lend excitement to what you do? How would you have celebrated Grandparents Day if you had known? Invite the grandparents of your students to a special show or open house at the barn? Have kids and their horses create Grandparents Day greeting cards showing them with their favorite horse in a picture or using a hoof print scanned into the computer to let the kids send an email to far-away grandparents?
As you can see, creating a special event or day can be fun, and it can be a great marketing tool.
