This year, Absorbine celebrated an important milestone that began with an extraordinary couple 125 years ago: Mary Ida and Wilbur Young. When the Young family originally formulated Absorbine Veterinary Liniment in 1892, they were pursuing a humane method of treating lameness in their beloved, hardworking horses. That spirit of innovation and passion for the well-being of animals has driven Absorbine ever since. 2017 has been a year of celebration, recognizing 125 years of caring for animals with commemorative packaging, a significant causal campaign, volunteer initiatives, and more.
To kick off the year, Absorbine released limited edition anniversary packaging for all Absorbine Veterinary Liniment bottles, in homage to the company’s flagship product. The design featured vintage elements inspired by the original edition of AbsorbineVeterinary Liniment, and proved to be a nostalgic treat for horse owners that know the traditional ochre bottle and distinct scent of minty green liniment from their childhood so well. The reception of these “throwback” bottles was so positive that it was determined an additional run would be made in 2018 as a continuing celebration of the company’s remarkable history and a visual reminder of its unique legacy in equine liniments.
Along with the special packaging, a percentage of all Absorbine Veterinary Liniment sales during the company’s anniversary year was donated to Brooke, the world’s largest international equine welfare charity. The organization works to improve the lives of over 1.8 million working equines and the people who depend on them in impoverished countries around the world. Through this initiative, $25,000 was raised to help Brooke’s efforts building shade structures, ensuring proper veterinary care, providing education to horse and donkey owners, supplying food and clean water, and more across the globe.
Acting locally, Absorbine employees volunteered their time and donated product to ten animal welfare organizations throughout the year, adding up to over 100 hours spent improving the lives of needy animals. The organizations ranged from horse rescues to a local zoo, dog and cat shelters to donkey sanctuaries. Team Absorbinehelped mend fences, walk dogs, set up charity events, organize feed rooms, provide cuddles, and of course, muck many stalls, shovel lots of poop, and scoop several litter boxes.
Through efforts like these, the company’s founding values rang stronger than ever, and inspired the company towards an even brighter future of caring for animals. “This was an important year spent recognizing the passion, dedication, and hard work that has gone into building a top animal health care brand, 125 years in the making,” says Chris Jacobi, president of Absorbine. “We had a chance to give back to the community that has helped shape our success, in a way that spoke very well to our unique heritage. Now, we look forward to the future, constantly innovating and improving. We hope to be the Horse World’s Most Trusted Name for another 125 years, and beyond.”
