ACTHA Post Solid Gains 2014

“It is never as much as we want, but we’ll take a 33% gain over the previous year as long as we can keep the lights on and keep horses employed in record numbers,” stated Tom Scrima, ACTHA’s General Manager.

“We are enthused that we’re up almost 100% over calendar year 2012 and have a record breaking 352 events already pre-booked for 2015! That is indeed amazing for us and virtually assures ACTHA yet another record year.

However with the European Union’s recent decision to ban the import of Mexican horse meat, as reported recently, the pressure on the rescues and the horse industry in general will be even more extreme in the upcoming years. ACTHA remains committed to be the dominant employer of the unwanted horse in the United States. By continuing our never-ending thirst for growth, we hope to create a large enough secondary market for the unwanted horse so that every horse has a home and a rewarding occupation.

In the meantime we continue to give what we can to equine rescues and charity. In 2014 our contributions exceeded $75,000. While that is a lot for us, especially since we run at a break even at best, it’s a pittance to what is needed.”

With tremendous help from great sponsors, wonderful members, thousands and thousands of riders and noble volunteers; as well as the gracious industry at large, ACTHA will continue the quest.

Their biggest plan for 2015? More junior involvement! Do we hear possible scholarships in the wind? (And of course as they say… more events than anyone can count.)

“We’d like to offer everyone a joyous Christmas with their horses, friends and families. The ACTHA Staff will be taking a well-deserved 24 hour vacation on Christmas day before completing our remaining events for 2014.”

The ACTHA mission is: To create an enjoyable venue showcasing the wonderful attributes of the great American trail horse and granting them the recognition they so richly deserve. To create a registry open to all breeds and a point designation system which will stay with each horse for its lifetime, thereby adding to their value and distinction. To create and enable humane treatment and employment options for horses in need.

Virtually every known breed competes in ACTHA events, including the noble Grade horse.

If you are unfamiliar with ACTHA, this brief video featuring some of the industry’s most notable icons will help you.
