Andrew Clurman, president and CEO of Active Interest Media (AIM, aimmedia.com), announced recently that AIM has acquired the United States Team Roping Championships (USTRC). Based in Stephenville, Texas, the USTRC is the world’s leading team roping member organization, with over 30,000 members worldwide, and one of the largest single discipline equine groups in the nation.
“With over 100 national qualifying events, regional finals and national finals in late October, the USTRC has a massive footprint of year-’round roping competitions,” he said. “Combined with our World Series of Team Roping’s (WSTR) 140 qualifying events and the Las Vegas Championships in December, the USTRC and the WSTR represent an unrivaled event franchise in the sport of team roping.”
“With the ownership of the USTRC and the WSTR, we now serve the largest two demographic groups representing just over 80% of the market share,” confirmed USTRC’s founder, Denny Gentry. “By managing the two series and finals to complement each other, we now have the opportunity to maximize participation in the sport and prize pools for our contestants.” Gentry―who also founded the WSTR, which AIM bought in 2015―will serve as director of roping operations.
In related news, Clurman announced that Tom Winsor, the former general manager of AIM’s Equine Group, has rejoined AIM as senior vice president of Business Development & Equine.
“The addition of the USTRC to AIM’s portfolio of events is an exciting development for us,” noted Dave Andrick, vice president of AIM’s Equine Group. “This is an exciting period in the equine industry, and the opportunity to have Tom Winsor back on the team is a welcome addition that will help us grow new opportunities.”
