Hats Off to Kentucky’s Horse Industry Day and the Rood & Riddle $50,000 Kentucky Grand Prix will take place Saturday, July 26, at the Kentucky Horse Park. This event includes Sponsor Tent ringside seating and a buffet dinner as well as both live and silent auctions and the first ever Equine Exclusive Book Fair. 100% of its proceeds are donated to two very worthwhile charities, The Kentucky Equine Humane Center and The Kentucky Horse Park Foundation. Seats are available for $125 and tables of eight for $1,000. If you would like to purchase tickets, please contact Alex Riddle at ariddle@roodandriddle.com or call 859-233-0371.
There will be approximately 11 live auction items and over 100 silent auction items offered at the event. In an effort to allow prospective bidders to review and consider items, and allow those who cannot attend an opportunity to bid, proxy bids will be accepted on some of the items. For more information about the auction items or if you are interested in placing a proxy bid on any of the items, please go here.
Live Auction Items
Included in the live auction items are:
Original Secretariat Belmont Stakes Shoe Nail. The reserve is $4,000. One of only a handful to exist! A framed montage hand-signed signed by Ron Turcotte and including an original horseshoe nail from Secretariat’s 1973 Belmont Stakes victory documented with an impeccable provenance. The featured nail was obtained on June 26, 1973, when Secretariat was re-shod 17 days after winning the Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths, setting a new and still existing world record for 1 1/2 miles on dirt to complete his Triple Crown sweep. The performance was perhaps the most defining race in Secretariat’s career, and considered one of the top 10 sporting achievements of the 20th century (Sports Illustrated, 2004). The nail was individually cataloged, officially documented and was initially sealed inside a brown envelope within the original shoe box from the Victory Racing Plate shoe company, which supplied a variety of Secretariat’s shoes throughout his career. The nail has been kept in protected storage since its acquisition
