On the morning of April 15, 2017, trailers rolled in the as equine-savvy volunteers, veterinarians, and coordinators from the National Equine Resource Network (NERN) greeted 19 stallions scheduled to be castrated. This Oakdale, CA event was the first in NERN’s 2017 series of low-cost gelding clinics. Always looking to support such incredible equine welfare initiatives, Banixx joined the event as a corporate sponsor.
The concept of low-cost neutering for small animals has always been successful in deterring unwanted pregnancies and is a cause that Banixx has been deeply devoted to for the past 10 years. Upon learning of NERN’s clinic’s that tackled this equine issue at the source, the Banixx team felt it was a perfect fit for their company and agreed to provide both financial and product sponsorship. Every owner left with not only a newly minted gelding, but also a gift bag of full-sized Banixx products, including their new Medicated Shampoo with Marine Collagen. In addition, Banixx supplied product for the veterinary team from Pioneer Equine Hospital who performed the castrations.
NERN’s low-cost gelding clinics began in 2011 and, to date, have castrated 850 stallions and colts. For 2017, they’ve aided in the creation of 200 new geldings via clinics and grants. The clinics, located primarily in California, have been a huge success and spots fill immediately. “Reception by local horse owners has been overwhelmingly positive to these clinics,” states Shirley Puga the head of this non-profit organization. “There are a lot of responsible people out there who want to do the right thing by their horses, they are just struggling financially.
