Certified Horsemanship Association Announces New Day Ride Trail Guide Certification

Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) is launching a new certification program for staff at facilities that focus on group trail riding for novice riders.

(November 2012) Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) is launching a new certification program for staff at facilities that focus on group trail riding for novice riders. Parks, camps, trail outfits, etc., will benefit from having their trail guides attend one of these clinics. Their trail guiding skills will be evaluated and there will be workshops on topics such as Planning and Supervising a Trail Ride; Risk Management, Accident Prevention and Emergency Procedures; Horse and Equipment Management; Low Impact Trail Riding, and Standards and Professionalism.

CHA is looking for equine facilities that are interested in hosting this new certification in 2013. Please contact CHA Program Director Polly Haselton Barger for a how to host packet and to find out more about this program and how you can get involved at pbarger@CHA-ahse.org or at 859-259-3399 and visit http://cha-ahse.org/store/pages/30/Certifications.html on the CHA website for more information on this new CHA program.

“I believe this program will absolutely fill the certification gap for those programs that only do trail riding,” says CHA Program Director Polly Haselton Barger. “CHA’s other certification programs require at least some arena work, but the skills for this program are strictly related to trail. This certification is valid for three years and is renewable at that time by following the CHA recertification process of turning in continuing education credit hours.”

The purpose of CHA is to promote excellence in safety and education for the benefit of the horse industry. CHA certifies instructors and trail guides, accredits equestrian facilities, publishes educational manuals, produces educational horsemanship DVDs and hosts regional and international conferences.
