Certified Horsemanship Association Offers Youth Ways to Be Involved with TEAM CHA

The Certified Horsemanship Association offers a variety of ways for members to get involved. Through the youth membership, TEAM CHA, kids ages 15 years and younger can become involved with CHA. The membership only costs $15 and includes a quarterly TEAM CHA newsletter, a membership card and sticker. In addition, great prizes are available for those who spend time with horses, regardless of horse ownership status.

The Horse Connection Reward Program offers prizes to those who become involved with horses, whether it is their horse or a horse owned by another person. Grooming a horse, riding in a lesson, cleaning stalls and/or tack, volunteering at a horsemanship facility, reading a non-fiction horse book, or watching a non-fiction horse video and going to an equine event all qualify for the rewards program. For those going to an event, events such as the county fair or a horse exposition, as well as horse shows or a parade count. Prizes are awarded based on the different award hour levels. TEAM CHA is proud to be a part of many week-long summer camps, and participation in these programs allows students the chance to take home information about horses from CHA. They can then work on this information all school year and receive credit when they return back to their equine summer camp the following summer.

TEAM CHA’s leaders in the Horse Connection Reward Program currently are Katelyn Livermore of Henderson, CO; Patricia Kackert of Menifee, CA; Rebecca Cornn of Corbin, KY; Briaanna Torrens of Woodbourne, NY; and Becca Millage of Maple Valley, WA.

In addition to TEAM CHA, members that are age 16 and older can qualify to become certified as an assistant instructor by attending a CHA clinic. Assistant instructors can teach in English and/or Western and are qualified to assist in a lesson or trail ride under the supervision of a certified instructor. One must be 18 years or older to become a CHA Certified Instructor. For more information on CHA Certification, visit http://cha-ahse.org/store/pages/30/Certifications.html.
