July 31, 2013 — Clinician Clinton Anderson will present a three-hour colt starting demonstration at the National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity on Friday, Oct. 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. Held in the Reno Livestock Events Center outdoor arena, the demo is free with the price of a $15 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity daily admission ticket. One lucky attendee will win a Clinton Anderson Colt Starting Series training kit that includes 11 instructional DVDs and 26 Arena Mate booklets that detail each of the lessons on the DVDs. The training kit features Clinton starting a wild mustang through its 14th ride and is valued at $599.

With the experience of starting hundreds of horses, Clinton’s colt starting method is based on safety for the horse and the rider and focuses on properly preparing the colt with groundwork exercises to guarantee a safe first ride. During the demonstration, Clinton will share desensitizing and sensitizing exercises he uses to ensure the colt is respectful, calm and willing. Unlike traditional colt starting methods, Clinton uses an assistant during the horse’s first three rides to make the experience less stressful for the colt and will have one of his Certified Clinicians on hand to help demonstrate to the crowd the benefits of using a helper.

Following Clinton’s colt starting demo, spectators can shop the giant Best of the West trade show and cheer for the championship contenders in the Non-Pro Snaffle Bit Futurity Finals. Clinton will be available to sign autographs following his colt starting demonstration at the Classic Equine booth located on the north concourse of the Reno Livestock Events Center.
