Extreme Cowboy Race Thunders into 2018 Western States Horse Expo Pomona

Popular clinician Craig Cameron will host his crowd-pleasing “Extreme Cowboy Race” at the 7th annual Western States Horse Expo Pomona, March 9-11, 2018, at the Fairplex in California.

The Extreme Cowboy Race will light up the Expo on Friday and Saturday evenings at 6 p.m. when the Freedom Arena will explode each night with 15 determined contestants as they challenge 13 tough obstacles.

The top 10 from Friday and Saturday will once again confront obstacles with grit and determination at the finals on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. “This race is a great test of horse and rider and it takes a great team to compete in a winning way,” said Cameron. “Both the audience and competitors love this race. As a matter of fact, I’d venture to say that it’s the fastest growing sport in the horse industry.

“In today’s equine world, the sports are so specialized that both horse and rider pretty much only know one thing and do it well,” said Cameron. “But in the Extreme Cowboy Race, these horses and riders have to face a whole spectrum of challenges — for instance, from fast to slow, from rollbacks to spins, from sorting cattle to trailer loading. And it’s all accomplished against the clock! The course will change during these three days so no one can guess what’s going to be asked of them. The judges are looking for soft hands, loose reins, straightness — all the elements that make up good horsemanship. And we might even add in some ground work, too.”

Craig Cameron’s Extreme Cowboy Race started some 15 years ago and was broadcast on RFD-TV for a number of seasons to an amazingly enthusiastic audience. Craig’s commentary alone was worth watching the program! “When I was a kid growing up on a ranch,” remembers Cameron, “our horses had to do a little bit of everything. That’s why in this Extreme Cowboy Race I’ve included an all-around challenge that has speed with control. I might include jumps, water obstacles, leading exercises — who knows what I’ll dream up by then! But I do know that the winners will be really great all-around horses ridden by really great all-around cowboys and cowgirls.”

All entrants must be members in good standing with the Extreme Cowboy Association, www.ExtremeCowboyAssociation.com.

Tickets for the Western States Horse Expo Pomona event are $18 a day, or $45 for three days. Tickets for young horse enthusiasts ages 7-13 are just $10 a day.
