Sept. 3, 2013 — For the fourth year, Las Vegas-based Horses4Heroes will be holding a Patriot’s Weekend 9/11 Remembrance on Friday, Sept. 6, through Sunday, Sept. 8, at Las Vegas Horseman’s Park. This year the Southern Nevada Fire Fighters will be honored during a special tribute Saturday morning.

The weekend will start with a Dutch Oven/BBQ Dinner and Silent Auction on Friday, Sept. 6, at 6 p.m. on the Main Arena Event Lawn. Kathy’s Chuck Wagon is the caterer and tickets are just $25 per person. On Saturday morning a Grand Entry will be held in the Flamingo Arena, recognizing the service and sacrifice of Southern Nevada Fire Fighters, including a special tribute to the Prescott 19 Hot Shot fire fighters that lost their lives this summer in Arizona. All who lost their lives on 9/11 and since in the war on terror will be recognized.

Following the opening ceremonies, the 5th Annual Red White and Blue Jeans Walk-Trot Spectacular will begin, also in the Flamingo Arena. This year, high-point buckles will be awarded in seven age divisions. New this year are high-point awards for Rookie English and Rookie Western Youth and Senior riders. In-hand classes for Miniature Horses and classes for Rookie Rescue horses have been added as well.

With 106 entries last year, this all community, open-breed horse show is the “biggest little horse show” in Las Vegas.” The show is fun, affordable, casual and educational and encourages local horse owners to try horse shows in a safe environment. It also is an opportunity for local trainers and instructors to introduce their students to the fun of competing in horse shows.

All participants receive a collectible participant ribbon and first place award winners will receive $10 gift cards from local retailers and restaurants, including sponsor C-A-L Ranch.

Lead-line for ages six and under and warm-up classes are free. Class fees are $5 for youth and $10 for adults. There will be three Hunt seat classes and three Western classes in addition to English or Western Showmanship.

Also on Saturday, across the park in the Main Arena, the second annual 4D Barrel Race will get under way at 9:30 a.m. The Red White and Blue Barrels Race for our Heroes is approved by the Women’s Pro Rodeo Assn. (WPRA). The entry fee is $40 and riders who bring in at least one 33-gallon bag of used shoes and/or boots will get $10 off their entry fee. The boot and shoe drive is in support of Horses4Heroes’ Healin’ Boots, a campaign to collect 300 bags by Sept. 30 to raise $3,000.

The organization’s large and growing national network of equestrian centers in 44 states and Canada offer affordable, sometimes free, recreational, instructional and health and wellness programs. In Las Vegas, free programs include Operation Free Ride and Operation Free Ride Rodeo, Back in the Saddle, Ladies Unbridled, and 8.9.10: Ride to Win.
