Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center Hosts Clinic to Benefit Local Rescue Groups

The premier equine medical center in Placer County, California, and surrounding communities is preparing to host the region’s largest vaccine clinic for horses on Saturday, March 21, 2015. With the help of horse owners throughout the region that visit one of the six locations in Roseville, Placerville, Auburn, Lincoln, Penryn and Lockeford, the Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center (LBEMC) will be able to donate many vaccines to rescue horses in need.

With the help of co-sponsor, Zoetis, LBEMC is offering discounted vaccines including 3Way/WNV, Strangles, Flu/Rino, and Rabies to privately owned horses. For every five vaccines given, one vaccine will the donated to a rescue horse in need. Each of the six locations will be staffed by veterinarians and assistants, allowing horse owners to get their horses properly vaccinated and to help as many rescue horses as possible. Rescue groups that will benefit from this daylong vaccine clinic include: The Shiloh Foundation (Auburn), All About Equine (El Dorado Hills), MAG 777’s Equine, Inc. (Camp Far West), Freedom Horse Rescue (Lincoln), and Founder Rehab Rescue (Lockeford).

“Vaccines for humans have been in the news a lot lately and it is just as important for horses to be immunized against life threatening diseases as it is for humans,” said Dr. Jill Higgins, DVM of the Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center. “We hope to help up to 1,000 horses at our six vaccine clinic locations this year. This will help promote their good health and the health of other horses on the trails, ranches and farmland throughout our region, plus we will be able to vaccinate dozens of rescue horses from these deadly, yet preventable diseases.”

Conveniently located in Penryn, California, just northeast of Sacramento the Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center is the only facility between San Francisco and Reno offering hospitalization, surgery and intensive care for horses (with the exception of the U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine). The original Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic was established in 1975 for both farm and companion animals. In 1991, the large animal clinic was established as an independent practice in order to improve patient care by focusing services primarily on horses. With the equine hospital opened in 2004, the practice was officially renamed Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center in 2005. All doctors and staff are highly trained in the latest medical techniques for equine care. More important is the entire staff’s total commitment to the care and comfort of individual patients. As part of its commitment to providing the highest quality medical care possible for its patients, they provide qualified equine practitioners on emergency call after hours, Sundays and holidays throughout the year, and can provide hospitalization and 24 hour intensive care for critical medical and surgical cases at any time of the day or night.
