Purdue Survey: Care and Treatment of Show Horses

Credit: Photos.com Purdue University researchers are conducting a study about perception of show horse care and treatment.

As we all know, there is growing public concern about the care and treatment of show horses. Dr. Colleen Brady and Melissa A. Voigt, MS, PAS, of Purdue University, are conducting a study regarding this timely issue of the perception of show horse care and treatment.

It is the goal that the information gathered will be used to develop a free online educational lesson on how to become more aware of issues and better care for show horses in all aspects, including during their training. This study is by no means meant to point out what people in the horse industry may be doing incorrect, but to highlight the fact that there are issues in our industry that we need to address and take seriously before regulations are imposed on us from an outside organization.

A primary component of this study is an online survey for those involved or interested in the show horse industry. Please take the survey, and spread the word about this survey on your website, Facebook page or Twitter feed.

The survey may be found at http://ittybittyurl.com/1MC9. The Facebook page Show Horse Life is also hosting a short video to promote the survey. Feel free to go to https://www.facebook.com/showhorselife and share the video.

If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact Voigt at voigt@purdue.edu, or Brady at bradyc@purdue.edu.
