Purina Animal Nutrition Continues to Give Horses a Second Chance through A Home for Every Horse

Purina Animal Nutrition has once again pledged up to $150,000 in free feed to equine rescue shelters through its continuing partnership with A Home for Every Horse, a program dedicated to finding homes for horses in need of adoption or fostering. For the fourth consecutive year, Purina has pledged a donation of at least $125,000. From May 5, 2015, to September 5, 2015, Purina invites horse lovers to help donate up to an additional $25,000 in feed for rescue shelters by spreading the news and sharing their own stories.

  • Purina will donate an additional $1 in free feed when fans share through HelpFeedRescueHorses.com, or Like or Share campaign-related posts on Purina’s Facebook page.
  • Additionally, fans can share their stories of adoption or bringing malnourished horses back to good health. Each story shared on Purina’s Facebook page will tally an additional $25 in free feed to the campaign.

Many equine rescue organizations struggle to give adoptable horses the resources they need to thrive, including veterinary care, shelter, training and proper nutrition. A Home for Every Horse helps these organizations meet the demands of fostering and rehabilitating rescue horses by providing assistance and much-needed nutrition.

“Proper nutrition is a key factor in bringing neglected and malnourished horses back to good health,” said Dr. Kelly Vineyard, equine nutritionist, Purina Animal Nutrition. “Through our ongoing partnership with A Home for Every Horse, Purina continues its commitment to ending the plight of homeless horses by sharing our nutritional expertise and donating high-quality feed to hundreds of rescue shelters across the United States.”

The program builds on the success of previous years, which has seen nearly 500 rescue shelters throughout the country register to receive support. To date, Purina has donated more than 600 tons of feed to rescue shelters.

“We are pleased to continue our partnership with A Home for Every Horse to find forever homes for our nation’s adoptable horses,” said Dagmar Caramello, director of the Unwanted Horse Coalition. “We continue to hear firsthand accounts of rescue horses that have benefitted from the program and from the generosity of Purina. With these types of outreach efforts, the equine industry shows that it truly understands the issue of unwanted horses and is working to make a difference.”

Rescue Shelter Sign-Ups
Rescue shelters can benefit from the program by submitting their nonprofit paperwork to AHomeForEveryHorse.com and completing the 2015 A Home for Every Horse rescue application. The simple registration process requires 501(c)(3) verification and offers benefits such as free feed from Purina and free listings of adoptable horses on Equine.com. Shelters can email 501(c)(3) forms and the application to ahfeh@equine.com or mail them to 2520 55th St, Suite 210, Boulder, CO 80301.

Participating rescue shelters can choose from a variety of Purina horse feeds to match the nutritional needs of their horses. Eligible feeds include Purina Strategy GX, Strategy Healthy Edge and Equine Senior horse feeds. These options help rescue shelter operators rehabilitate and provide ongoing nutritional care to horses at varying stages of recuperation.
