The Right Horse Initiative is opening applications for the Be Mine Training Grant starting February 1, 2019. The Be Mine Training Grant will award three 501(c)(3) adoption organizations $10,000 each to fund training expenses associated with preparing their horses for adoption. 

Training is an important piece that prepares a horse for an adopter to say, “be mine.” Adoption organizations and rescues carefully develop training and care plans for each horse that enters their program based on each horse’s individual needs. The goal is a healthy, happy horse that is ready to succeed with their new adopter.

Sometimes a horse might need training in a new discipline, while other times the horse might need to be started as a riding horse or improve ground manners for safe handling. As important as training is to the adoption process, organizations often face challenges in getting adequate training resources. Some of the possible uses of the grant funds might include improving training facilities, sending horses to training or hiring a trainer on-site.

“We recognize that training is an important factor in preparing horses for their new home. We are looking forward to rewarding three organizations for their dedication to helping horses in transition by helping them expand their work with training funds,” said The Right Horse Initiative President Christy Counts.

All United State-based 501(c)(3) adoption organizations are encouraged to apply. Applications are available on their website and are due by February 14, 2019. The winners will be announced and receive funding in March.
