For the second year in a row, Zoetis is teaming up with the winner of the Zoetis-American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Best Remuda Award to present a Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR) contestant with a new horse. To honor the contributions that ranch horses make to the heritage of the American Quarter Horse, the 2013 winner, Matador Ranch, of Matador, Texas, is donating a 3-year-old filly to one lucky contestant at the 2013 WNFR.

“This filly, MCC Royal Chic, is the result of the hard work the ranch team has put forth to produce quality American Quarter Horses,” said James Palmer of the Matador Ranch. “This filly will be a valuable partner to the contestant who gets to take her home.”

The Remuda Roulette lottery, designed for the WNFR contestants, will award entries on a performance-based point scale during the 10 rounds of the rodeo in December. Contestants receive a lottery chance simply for qualifying for the WNFR. Those contestants who perform well throughout the rodeo will receive additional chances to take home the filly. At the completion of the 10th round, a contestant will be randomly selected from the pool of contestant entries to determine who will take home the grand-prize filly. The 2012 Remuda Roulette winner was team roping world champion Turtle Powell.

The Matador Ranch is excited for the opportunity to provide a WNFR contestant with a new horse and honored to have been chosen as the 2013 Zoetis-AQHA Best Remuda Award winner.

“To be a part of this award family is an outstanding achievement for us,” said Bob Kilmer, also of the Matador Ranch. “By applying continuous improvement and principled entrepreneurship, we strive to build a product to serve our employees and our customers and to improve industry-driven decisions. To win this award and be recognized by such an elite committee tells us we are moving toward our goal and is a crown to our program.”

By putting the filly in the hands of one of the finest equine professionals in the world, Zoetis is confident the lucky cowboy or cowgirl will help maintain the integrity and quality of this ranch and the American Quarter Horse.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Zoetis not only to showcase a great ranch, but also to have the opportunity to highlight the success of the best cowboys and cowgirls in the world,” said Allen Moczygemba, marketing director, Zoetis. “As the official animal health partner of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), we are committed to recognize the individuals who set a good example with the health of their animals, and Matador Ranch helps us do this.”
