KER Introduces Triacton for Equine Bone Density

KER's new research-proven supplement increases bone density in horses.

Horse owners and trainers know bone quality is important for the soundness and long-term health of performance horses. For racehorses, poor bone quality can result in lost training time, reduced starts, and other developmental issues, such as bucked shins.

Kentucky Equine Research (KER) reviewed past research identifying several minerals with positive effects on bone quality. Building on those findings, KER designed a unique blend of high-quality ingredients. Researchers tested this blend, called Triacton, and found it promotes bone development while also providing important digestive benefits.

KER researchers studied Thoroughbred racehorses in training for 90 days. The horses consisted of two- and three-year-olds that were beginning race training, three-year-olds in active race training, and older horses returning to training after a 60- to 90-day break from active training.

Over the 90-day training period, the horses supplemented with Triacton had significantly greater increases in both dorsal and palmar cortical bone density compared to the horses that received the placebo. In fact, the horses receiving the 120 grams of Triacton per day had a threefold greater increase in bone density in the dorsal cortex (shin) of the cannon bone compared to the placebo. “We were very pleased to see such dramatic results in Thoroughbreds in active race training,” said Joe D. Pagan, PhD, president and founder of KER. “Bone quality is vital to keep horses in work, so Triacton’s efficacy in improving bone density is certainly important. Triacton’s naturally high buffering capacity is also beneficial for maintaining total-tract gastrointestinal health.”

Triacton is available in a convenient pelleted form with a feeding rate of 120 g per day for mature horses. For more information on Triacton, contact Kentucky Equine Research at 888-873-1988 or info@ker.com. Purchase Triacton directly at shop.kerx.com.
