In 1969, 50 years ago, PATH Intl. (then NARHA) was just a fledgling idea in the minds of a few trailblazers. The fledgling idea took shape and through a lot of passion, dedication and hard work, it grew. And grew. And grew.
Today, as PATH Intl. celebrates its 50th anniversary, there are approximately 8,000 members, 4,776 instructors and 873 member centers around the globe. Each one is dedicated to the equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) field and to providing the very best and safest programs to change the lives of thousands of individuals.
As part of the 50th celebration, PATH Intl. asked members to share their stories and why they are involved in this life-changing organization. We are proud to present their stories in the PATH Intl. Members of the Month. (We’ve had such a great response, we’ve been publishing two members of the month!)

The Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) was formed in 1969 to promote safety and optimal outcomes in equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) for individuals with special needs. At 873 member centers, nearly 69,000 children and adults, including more than 6,700 veterans, may find improved health, wellness, fun and a sense of pride and independence through involvement with horses. Therapeutic horsemanship at member centers may include hippotherapy, equine-facilitated mental health, driving, interactive vaulting, trail riding, competition, ground work and stable management. Through a wide variety of educational resources, the association helps individuals start and maintain successful EAAT programs. There are nearly 62,000 volunteers, 4,776 instructors, 7,943 equines and thousands of contributors from all over the world helping people at PATH Intl. Member Centers.
